Who We Are
Dr. Kevin D. Helling
Surgeon
Dr. Helling was born in Laramie, Wyoming and moved to Casper when he was five years old. He attended Crest Hill Elementary School, Dean Morgan Junior High, and graduated from Natrona County High School. From there, he went to Hastings College in Nebraska, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biology. Dr. Helling then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine, graduating with his Medical Doctor (M.D.) degree in 2007. Following medical school, he completed an Internship in General Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he met his lovely wife. Together, they moved to Palo Alto, California where Dr. Helling completed General Surgery Residency at Stanford, serving his final year as a Chief Resident. While at Stanford, Dr. Helling presented his research on advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques at local, regional, and national meetings. He also won several awards for medical student teaching and laparoscopic surgical skills during his time as a resident.
After residency, Dr. Helling completed a fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery. He continued his academic pursuits, presenting his research and providing clinical care to an international audience. During his time in Boston, he was also a Clinical Instructor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, where he was responsible for teaching the next generation of surgeons.
Dr. Helling currently serves as Chief of Staff for Banner Wyoming Medical Center. He is the immediate Past Chair and founding Co-Chair of the Rural Bariatric Surgery Committee of the ASMBS, the primary professional society of weight loss surgeons.
He is an Associate Editor for Obesity Surgery, one of the major academic journals for bariatric surgery. He also represents Wyoming as the Governor-at-Large for the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Helling has been blessed to have been trained by some of the most preeminent leaders in the fields of general and bariatric surgery in the world. He strives to live up to that level of leadership and excellence in bringing the best quality of general and bariatric surgical care that can be found anywhere.
Mitchell Hall
PA-C
Mitchell is a certified Physician Assistant that grew up in the Missoula, Montana area. He received his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at Montana State University in Bozeman. His studies continued at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, where he earned his master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. He also serves our country as a Crew Chief in the Montana Air National Guard. Mitchell and his wife, Sarah, have a hard time sitting still. If they aren’t exploring something outdoors, they are busy with home projects or preparing for their next adventure. Mitchell says his passion for surgery is kindled by being an integral part of definitive patient care as well as being involved in patient education for his favorite part of medicine, which is surgery.
Michelle Howard
FNP-C, CBN, RNFA
Teresa “Michelle” Howard is a Family Nurse Practitioner at Precision Surgical in Casper, Wyoming. She has worked primarily in General and Bariatric Surgery, specializing in weight management and coordination through the bariatric surgery process. Michelle is a Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) through the American Society for Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (ASMBS) and a Registered Nurse First Assist through the National Institute of First Assisting (NIFA) Inc. Michelle is celebrating 20 years of marriage to Justin. She and Justin enjoy spending time with family, traveling, camping, biking, and cheering for their son, Jude, in his many after school activities.
